Valentine’s Day Cookies

16 Feb

I recently started a bartending at a great bar and I ended up having to work on Valentine’s Day from 7 pm – 2 am. I figured the only people that would spend the evening at a dive bar on Valentine’s Day would be lonely people who hate the Hallmark holiday. I thought I would brighten up the day of some of our regular patrons with some cookies and brownies. They really appreciated them and it made me happy to bring a smile to their faces. Some even said that I made the day much better than they had expected.

Valentine’s Day cookies were all over Pinterest, so I took some nuances of different cookies and came up with these. I have a Cookie Inspiration board and intend to make my own versions for various holidays or themed orders.

I really like how the double decker cookies came out. The little hearts have sanding sugar on the red and pink ones and non pareils for the white ones.

I bagged and bowed the cookies and handed them out to neighbors and the bar regulars. I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day full of love!

San Francisco Giants Cookies

16 Feb

I had an order for a girl’s 13th birthday. The theme was the San Francisco Giants. My husband is a huge Oakland Athletics fan, so he wasn’t so happy with these cookies but the birthday girl was happy with them and that is all that matters!

I made mitts, baseballs and jerseys with her last name on them. I had a disastrous time making icing transfers with the Giants’ logo because they were so thin and fragile. Only one of them actually came out. I think I need to invest in a Kopykake already.

Christmas Cookies

16 Feb

I know… it’s really late to be posting Christmas cookies but I never got around to posting them.

I made these ones for my annual Ugly Christmas Sweater party. I saw so many different pictures on how to decorate candy cane cookies and I really like the effect of alternating thick and thin lines.

Owl Cookies

16 Feb

My best friend recently had a beautiful baby girl. For her baby shower, we had a green and pink owl theme. I made owl sugar cookies for the favors.

I couldn’t find the perfect owl cookie cutter anywhere, so I ended up making my own with those disposable foil trays, staples, glue gun and packaging tape. It was a lot of work but I wanted a plumper owl. The eyes and feathers are made with fondant. I used the tip of icing tips to cut each feather out. Luckily I have awesome friends who helped me out, otherwise I would have gone insane applying all of those feathers by myself!

Storybook Fairytale Theme

16 Feb

I had an order for a storybook fairytale theme first birthday. The little girl was dressed up like Little Riding Hood. So precious. I made cupcakes with fondant toppers and personalized gingerbread favors.

I make my own marshmallow fondant because I really don’t like the taste of the store bought kind. I used cookie cutters and icing tips to make all of the circle shapes for the three little pigs, three bears and Little Red. I also made little books with a small rectangle cookie cutter. Half of these cupcakes are vegan because the mom and kids are vegan but the guests aren’t. We ended up not telling the guests which ones were vegan and no one could tell!

I like how the little gingerbread boys and girls came out. They are so much simpler than royal icing cookies but fit perfectly in the birthday party theme.

Monogram Cookies

12 Sep

I had an order for monogram cookies for a bridal party. These cookies are going to be handed out during the rehearsal dinner this week. The colors of the wedding are purple and silver. There is no true “silver” food coloring, so I had to make a gray royal icing and “paint” silver luster dust on each and every detail of the cookie. It was a lot of work but I am happy with how they turned out. The mother of the bride ordered these cookies as a surprise. I hope they enjoy them!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

12 Sep

I have never been a huge fan of a traditional birthday cake. I always preferred cupcakes, cheesecake or anything other than a traditional birthday cake. For my wedding, we even had a Coldstone ice cream cake! My mission is for complete customization. You want it. I will bake it. I met a lady and her husband loves chocolate chip cookies. She asked for a giant chocolate chip cookie as her husband’s “birthday cake.” I have a killer chocolate chip cookie recipe and I just made it into a giant cookie cake.
